PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- More than 100 people including health-care providers, professionals who treat addiction and people recovering from alcohol and drug addictions gathered Friday morning at Roger William Medical Center mark the start of national "recovery month."
The event was the kick-off for the Rally 4 Recovery which is planned for Sept. 21st. Rhode Island is the "national hub" for the event, meaning it will be broadcast from Rhode Island.
Among the speakers at the kickoff was James GiIlen, director of Anchor Recovery Center, who describes himself as someone in "long-term recovery."
"Recovery is possible, recovery is probable," Gillen said. "Addiction is an illness much like diabetes and heart disease and lymphoma."
