PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Diocese of Providence has unveiled a new outreach designed to provide food and other help to people in need every Friday in Cathedral Square.

Beginning at 5 p.m., Friday, Aug. 30, volunteers from Breadlines, whose members had been distributing food to an estimated 150 people every other week in Abbot Park, will relocate to the city-owned Cathedral Square to distribute food. The Blackstone Valley Catholic Worker Inc. and the And You Fed Me Ministry, which was started by St. Patrick parish on Smith Hill, will do the same on alternate weeks starting next Friday.

The Diocese is calling the outreach Cathedral Square Ministries. Besides the food, staff members from the diocesan office of Catholic Charities and Social Ministry will be on hand with information and help in applying for a host of other assistance programs including supplemental nutritional assistance, homeless shelter placement and U.S. citizenship.
