PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) -- Johnson & Wales University is marking the official opening of a cooperative-style housing option the school says is the first of its kind in Rhode Island.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled for Tuesday morning at Centennial House, which is located in Cranston. Thirty-five sophomores and juniors have been selected to live in the house, where students will focus on self-governance and community service.
Residents will be required to participate in one community service project each term in Cranston.
Cranston Mayor Allan Fung will attend the event, joining Johnson & Wales Chancellor John Bowen, Providence Campus President Mim Runey and Centennial House student president Kevin Walton.
Students will provide tours of the house.
