PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- A four year old Providence boy was hospitalized Sunday afternoon after being attacked by the family pitbull, according to the police.
Lt. Richard Fernandes said the attack happened before 3 p.m. at a residence on Hanover Street, in the city's West End.
The child suffered "severe facial wounds" and was rushed to Hasbro Children's Hospital, where he was expected to undergo surgery, he said.
Fernandes said it was unclear why the year-old dog attacked the child. The dog was seized by the police and is under quarantine.
