CRANSTON, R.I. -- Flood waters can be dangerous, the Rhode Island Emergency Management Agency cautions.
People affected by flooding should follow the advice offered by Armand Randolph, public information officer for the RIEMA.
-- Stay away from hazardous materials, water, propane tanks and debris.
-- Do not walk or play in flood waters. Six inches of moving water can make you fall. Standing water may be unsanitary. Avoid contact, if possible, with raw sewage from failed septic systems or overwhelmed sewers.
-- Be cautious at night when it is harder to recognize flood danger
-- If you see or smell anything dangerous, call 911
