PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Woonsocket police have charged two suspects with vandalism for allegedly painting graffiti "tags" on city and private property.
The cases are not related.
On Monday, police received a tip that someone was spray painting a footbridge between Cumberland Street and the Woonsocket Middle School.
Patrol Officer Enrique Sosa saw Carlos Mojica, 36, of 257 Willow St., Woonsocket, walking away from the bridge. When Sosa sought to question him, Mojica ran, police said in a news release. Sosa caught him near the school's basketball courts.
When arrested, Mojica had a can of spray paint and a knife, police said. Mojica was charged with vandalism, a weapons violation and resisting arrest. He also was wanted on two warrants.
On Thursday, Detective Jason Berthelette arrested a 15-year-old juvenile after the City of Woonsocket, the Providence & Worcester Railroad, Wojcik's Farm Produce and The Plastic Group filed complaints about graffiti. The suspect was charged with vandalism.
