TAUNTON, Mass., -- The National Weather Service forecasters have issued a hazardous weather outlook for Rhode Island and eastern Massachusetts calling for the possibility of strong thunderstorms with gusty winds Thursday night.
A severe thunderstorm and flash flood watch has been declared for a line roughly to the northwest of a line from Providence to Boston, the weather service said. A forecast map indicates that the severe storms with large hail and damaging winds, along with heavy rain and localized flooding, are expected in all of southern New England except for Rhode Island.
The forecast for Warwick and Westerly calls for showers and thunderstorms that could produce heavy rain, between a quarter and half an inch. The forecast for Providence and northern R.I. calls for between a half and three-quarters of an inch.
