JOHNSTON, R.I. -- Operation Stand Down Rhode Island will bring an array of services to at-risk veterans for the weekend that starts Friday, Sept. 20.
A ceremony to open the military-style encampment at Diamond Hill State Park on Route 114, Cumberland, will begin at 11:30 a.m.
On Friday and Saturday, buses will shuttle veterans from Kennedy Plaza in Providence at 7 and 11 a.m.; from Woonsocket Depot at 9 a.m;. and from the Salvation Army in Pawtucket,102 High Street, at 9 am.
Services include a housing program that was recently awarded a $1 million grant from the Department of Veteran Affairs, an employment training and placement program, medical, dental, and mental health care services, and access to the Department of Motor Vehicles to address I.D. and license issues and apply for veterans licenses. Lawyers will be available Friday and Saturday.
On Saturday, the R.I. District Court and the Traffic Tribunal will address various legal matters pending in those courts.
