BOSTON (AP) -- Massachusetts Attorney General Martha Coakley has officially launched her quest for governor.

In a video posted on her campaign website Monday, the Democrat said she wants to ensure that everyone has an opportunity to succeed, and that starts with a strong commitment to education.

Coakley is scheduled to start her day greeting diners at Dempsey's Breakfast and Lunch in Medford.

It's the first stop of a three-day tour that will take her to Brockton, Attleboro, Fall River, New Bedford, Barnstable, Newton, Framingham, Worcester, Springfield, Pittsfield, North Adams, Boston, Lowell, Lawrence, Newburyport and Gloucester.

The 60-year-old Coakley is a native of North Adams. She lost her last political race -- the special election to replace U.S. Sen. Edward M. Kennedy in 2010 -- to Republican Scott Brown.

Five other Democrats and one Republican have announced runs.
