NORTH SMITHFIELD, R.I. -- A woman was bitten Friday as she tried rescuing her greyhound from a dog that attacked it, according to the police.
The police said a mixed-breed dog had left its residence at 155 St. Paul St. and attacked a greyhound at 175 St. Paul St. The owner of the greyhound, Wanda Misiaszek, attempted to stop the attack, was bitten by the mixed-breed dog and required medical treatment. The incident happened at around 7 p.m.
William Figuerido of 155 St. Paul St. had adopted the dog from the North Kingstown Animal Shelter three to four weeks earlier. The dog that attacked the greyhound was quarantined for ten days. Misiaszek and her dog required medical treatment for bite wounds.
The police later discovered that Figuerido had returned the dog to the North Kingstown Animal Shelter. The dog remains quarantined in the North Kingstown Animal Shelter.
