PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Attorney General Peter F. Kilmartin has determined it is unnecessary to send the death of Noel Charriez, who died while in custody with the Providence Police Department, to a grand jury for review.
Kilmartin's news release says the Feb. 24 death of the 49-year-old was investigated by a multi-agency team with members from Providence Police, Rhode Island State Police and Kilmartin's office.
"The autopsy performed on Mr. Charriez determined the cause of death was 'combined cocaine, heroin and bath salt intoxication,' " the news release states.
The release also says Providence Police officers did not contribute to his death, and the officers' actions were "lawful."
