WEST WARWICK, R.I. -- The Town Council met once again Tuesday night to consider a plan to address a budget deficit that could balloon to $10.7 million by 2016, but for the second time in the past three weeks councilors failed to reach an agreement.

West Warwick Town Manager Michael Stampfler talks to the town council at the meeting, submitting a proposal for them to consider that addresses the deficits in the budget.

The town must submit a plan to the state by Nov. 11 to deal with the looming financial crisis, but the council tabled the matter and has not yet set a date to meet again.

Town Manager Michael L. Stampfler put forward a proposal that includes increasing taxes freezing salaries for all municipal employees, cutting overtime payments and slashing pension benefits, but most of the members of the council are opposed to the plan.
