WARWICK, R.I. -- A campaign that attempts to convince young people not to text while driving makes its next stop Tuesday at Warwick Veterans Memorial High School.
The "Txting & Driving...It Can Wait" campaign is expected to have about 300 of the school's seniors sign a pledge, according to a news release.
Stating at 10 a.m., there will be an assembly at which Principal Gerry Habershaw uses a driving simulator meant to show how texting affects a driver's ability to keep a vehicle under control. State Attorney General Peter F. Kilmartin, and other officials will talk toabout the distracted-driving dangers and show a documentary about the issue. Students are slated to sign the pledge afterwards.
The campaign is being brought to schools by the state Attorney General's office, the state Department of Transportation, the state police and AT&T.
