PAWTUCKET, R.I. -- A teacher at Flora S. Curtis Elementary School is accused of stealing car keys from other teachers.
Melissa Jerrett, 40, of 41 Primrose St., was charged with three counts of receiving stolen goods on Tuesday, after another teacher discovered her missing keys in Jerrett's purse, said Maj. Arthur Martins.
Officers called about the missing keys then discovered that Jerrett had taken keys from two other teachers over the last several months, Martins said.
The major was unable to explain why the keys were allegedly stolen. "There was no damage, and the cars weren't stolen," Martins said.
Jerrett was arrested and released with a summons to appear in District Court on Dec. 11.
Jerrett was hired as a kindergarten teacher at Curtis Elementary in 1999. Her status at the school wasn't immediately known. Superintendent Deborah Cylke wasn't available Wednesday afternoon for comment.
