PAWTUCKET, R.I. -- A pizza-delivery person was robbed at gunpoint Wednesday night -- the fifth incident in the city since Nov. 1.

The delivery man for Bill's Pizza told police that he was called to deliver pizzas and wings to Larch Street around 9:45 p.m., but was confronted by two men in hooded sweatshirts, carrying a knife and a gun, said Maj. Arthur Martins.

The men stole his cell phone and money, Martins said. Police believe the robbers had called from a local gas station.

Other pizza-delivery drivers have been robbed throughout the city over the last several weeks, usually by two or three armed men, Martins said. The police are investigating holdups off Columbus Avenue, Newport Avenue, and near the Providence city line. The robbers don't injure the victims or take their vehicles; they just want money, phones, and occasionally the pizzas, Martins said.

The description of the robbers was vague. Police are treating the robberies as related.

Anyone with information about the robberies is asked to call the Pawtucket police detective division at (401) 727-9100 ext. 777.
