PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Forecasters continue to keep a close eye on a storm that could visit Southern New England Tuesday and Wednesday of next week, heavy travel days before Thanksgiving.
"There is potential for some form of precipitation and right now it does look like a mix of rain closer to the coast and snow more inland," the National Weather Service says in its forecast discussion. "However, there is much to be resolved over the next 5-6 days."
A low pressure system is expected to move toward the region next week, but the track of the low is unclear right now and whether it will bring rain, snow or a mixture, because computer models aren't in agreement, according to forecasters.
"While most of the models suggest a low pressure system affecting Southern New England, there is quite a bit of spread on exactly how this will occur," the Weather Service says.
Right now, light showers are moving through the region, and heavier showers are expected this afternoon, the Weather Service says.
Otherwise, expect some patchy fog and cloudy skies with a high near 51 degrees.
Saturday looks sunny with a high near 45.
Sunday turns colder with a high near 32 degrees and a northwest wind of 16 to 22 mph with gusts up to 32 mph. It will get even colder for fans at the New England Patriots game against the Denver Broncos Sunday night. The temperature is expected to drop all the way down to 18 degrees overnight.
Colder weather sticks around early next week before the low pressure system, and potential for rain or snow, moves into the region. Right now, that's expected to clear out for Thanksgiving day, which should be mostly sunny.
