PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Point Judith Pond will reopen to the harvest of shellfish at dawn on Saturday, the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management announced Friday evening.
The decision to close South County coastal ponds at noon Tuesday was based on water quality expected to be unacceptable because of superstorm Sandy.
The decision to reopen Point Judith Pond is based on the results of samples collected Thursday. For information about whether the other ponds reopen on the weekend, check the recording at (401) 222-2900.
