PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Governor Chafee has signed a revised request to President Obama for federal assistance for individuals in the wake of Hurricane Sandy.
Chafee had earlier requested aid for public roads and buildings in Bristol, Newport, and Washington counties; on Saturday, President Obama granted that request.
In a news release Sunday, Chafee said that teams from the Federal Emergency Management Agency have conducted enough damage assessments to add requests for assistance for individuals for Newport and Washington counties.
That could be such aid as Small Business Administration disaster loans and disaster-related unemployment aid, legal services and crisis counseling.
"This support will help Rhode Islanders who have suffered losses in the storm and help them return to normal," Chafee said.
