EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- John DeGoes, a former official in East Providence schools, has been chosen to lead the School Department as its interim superintendent, reported Charles Tsonos, the School Committee chairman.
DeGoes takes over for Edward Daft, who served as the district's interim superintendent for one year and left last week to take a position as assistant principal in Barrington High School.
DeGoes, who was one of three finalists for interim superintendent in East Providence in 2008, was selected from among five candidates by a search committee established by the city's state-appointed Budget Commission.
In addition to Tsonos, the committee included Diane Brennan, the Budget Commission chairwoman, and David Abbott, the state's deputy director of education.
