Leaders of Rhode Island's efforts to overhaul the health-care system said Wednesday that the reelection of President Obama will speed their plans.
Lt. Gov. Elizabeth H. Roberts, who heads the state's health-care reform task force, said she had been committed to changing the system no matter what happened in the election.
Obama's reelection means a continuing "partnership" with the federal government, the promise of more grant money for Rhode Island, and faster action on implementing the federal health care law, she said.
"It makes it clearer and easier for us going forward," said Christine C. Ferguson, director of the state's health benefits exchange.
Next week, the state will submit its plan for creating the exchange, a clearinghouse for people selecting health insurance.
