PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The four - or is it five? - surviving Senate Republicans will caucus at the State House at 3 p.m. on Thursday to re-elect Dennis Algiere of Westerly as Senate Minority Leader and David Bates of Barrington as the minority whip.

The GOP lost at least three of its eight seats in the 38-member Senate in Tuesday's election. The fate of a fourth Senate Republican - Nicholas Kettle of Coventry - was still hanging in the balance Thursday. Kettle was leading by 163 votes, with mail ballots yet to be counted.

Whoever survives the final count is likely to leave the caucus with a title: leader, whip, deputy minority leader.
