PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The city revoked the liquor license of dance club Monet after several violent incidents, including the shooting death of a customer in the parking lot. But the state Department of Business Regulation has ordered the license reinstated.
At an emergency hearing Thursday, the city Board of Licenses said the DBR order, issued Wednesday, will be appealed to court. If Monet, at 115 Harris Ave., opts to reopen in the meantime, the board voted to require that the club have a minimum detail of four off-duty police officers, including a supervisor.
In the DBR order, the department said the license board acted too harshly in the revocation. The state has a policy of progressive discipline when it comes to penalizing liquor licensees.
