BRISTOL, R.I. -- Three Roger Williams University students in a car crashed outside the university president's house just after 11 p.m. Thursday, Deputy Police Chief Steven Contente confirmed Friday.

The car, going south on Route 136, took the merge right onto Route 114 but veered left of the ramp, Contente said. The driver's side struck a tree and a sign and then sideswiped a second tree. The police found a bottle of beer in the backpack of John Corcoran, 19, of Darien, Conn., and charged him with possession of alcohol by a minor, Contente said.
