PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- An 18-wheeler driven by Frank Campagnone, 27, of Johnston, who was hauling dirt from a construction site on North Main Street to a cement company in Johnston, rolled onto its side while trying to negotiate the curve onto Route 95 south from the Smithfield Avenue ramp, a Rhode Island State Police officer said Friday.

Campagnone was taken to Rhode Island Hospital with bumps and bruises after the 12:25 p.m. rollover, State Police Sgt. Michael Reynolds said. He was released Friday afternoon.

The truck tipped about 75 feet from the interstate, spilling dirt into the breakdown lane.

The police closed the entrance ramp from Smithfield Avenue to 95 south after the rollover. Three tow-trucks were called in to pull the rig upright.

Reynolds said no charges have been filed, and the incident is under investigation.

An earlier version of this report was initially posted at 1:50 p.m.
