Today in RI history: 'Superbug' hits RI prison

A year ago today:
It's hard to see, because the workers stripping the steel, repairing and painting it are working under the bridge deck, but the Pell Bridge, between Jamestown and Newport, is getting a one-million-square-foot, 25,800-gallon paint job at a cost of $41.4 million, paid by bridge tolls.

5 years ago today:
The Adult Correctional Institutions last month logged seven cases of the "superbug" known as MRSA, a drug-resistant staph bacteria.

25 years ago today:
A commuter train carrying hundreds of passengers rams the rear of another crowded train in a tunnel at Back Bay Station, injuring as many as 30 passengers who were sent "flying down the aisle," officials said. Both trains were heading into Boston from Attleboro.
