Today in RI history: Former RI attorney general dies

A year ago today:
Julius C. Michaelson, a lawyer who built a long, distinguished career in public service, including serving as Rhode Island's attorney general from 1974 to 1978, dies at his Providence home.

5 years ago today:
Smithfield voters in a highly unusual recall election overwhelmingly banish Stephen G. Tocco from the Town Council after revelations of his past participation in municipal bribery.

25 years ago today:
Blacks in Rhode Island have a 23 percent higher death rate from disease and injury than whites, and are murdered six times more frequently, according to the first statewide comparison of the health of whites and non-whites.
