PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Rhode Island's tax amnesty program in 2012 has generated at least as much revenue for the state as 2006, the last year the program ran.

Rhode Island's tax amnesty program thus far has brought approximately $9.8 million to state coffers, said Tax Administrator David M. Sullivan, but the state has yet to process all amnesty applications.

Under the program, some penalties are waived and interest reduced by 25 percent for people who submit past-due state tax returns.

As of mid-afternoon Friday, the division had processed 4,479 applications, Sullivan said.
Applications had to be submitted on paper and processed manually. They had to be postmarked no later than Thursday at 11:59 p.m., leaving an unknown quantity still yet to be delivered for processing.
