The state Health Department on Wednesday ordered a Providence company that was offering medical-marijuana "health assessments" to cease operations because it was not licensed.
11th State Consultations, at 400 Reservoir Ave., was evaluating people to see whether they would qualify for medical marijuana, and then referring them to physicians, said Health Department spokesman Peter Hanney. (A doctor's signature is required before receiving a card authorizing possession of marijuana for medical purposes.)
According to the cease-and-desist order, 11th State Consultations, operated by Tom Focarelli and Maria Petrucci, is not licensed as a health-care facility and is not registered as a professional services corporation.
The company has 10 days to close its doors and stop advertising its services. A hearing has been scheduled for Nov. 30.
