The brick-and-stucco house 229 Potter Rd., known as "Villa Maria," was most recently occupied by Gary F. Anusavice, who was indicted in June in Connecticut in connection with a $20-million Medicaid fraud.

NORTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. -- FBI agents were expected to join local and state investigators at the scene of a fire that Friday gutted a vacant million-dollar home whose history of ownership includes one man who defrauded nursing homes and another charged with scamming more than $20 million from Medicaid.

Records show the English Tudor-style house at 229 Potter Rd., was last owned by AMZ Consulting, a corporation controlled by Gary F. Anusavice, a former Rhode Island dentist awaiting trial on charges he defrauded the government of more than $20 million in Medicaid payments.

The house and accompanying 9.6 wooded acres had previously been owned by Antonio L. Giordano, who admitted in 2006 to skimming, along with associates, millions of dollars from three failing nursing homes.
