Congregation of fire-damaged Woonsocket church holds Sunday services in rectory

WOONSOCKET, R.I. -- Services were held Sunday in a building behind St. Michael Ukranian Orthodox Chuch in Woonsocket, less than a week after a fire damaged the sanctuary.

Father Anthony Perkins conducted the service in the rectory behind the church. Outside, construction cranes perched over the rear of the church where strained-glass windows were damaged.

The fire was started by coals and ashes from an incense burner left in a plastic bucket.
