PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Detective Shawn Maxwell told jurors Thursday about visiting Gary Ellerbe at Rhode Island Hospital, a week after Ellerbe said he had been shot by a man known as "Beeper".
Ellerbe described the man who shot 15 rounds at him, 9 that hit, as a 25-year-old man with a goatee and corn braids, Maxwell said, responding to prosecutor Jim Baum.
Ellerbe was lying in bed as he identified Timothy DeBritto, aka "Beeper", from a photo array, Maxwell said. Ellerbe told him DeBritto fired at him as he ran away until there were no more shots in the gun, Maxwell said.
DeBritto is accused of shooting Ellerbe May 20 on General Street in Providence. He is charged with felony assault, discharging a firearm while committing a crime of violence and carrying an unlicensed pistol.
