PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) -- A political scientist and deputy dean at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology has been named director of Watson Institute for International Studies at Brown University.
Richard Locke was selected after an international search. He will join the university in July.
Locke is currently deputy dean at the MIT's Sloan School of Management, head of the university's political science department and a professor of political science and management. He served previously as the faculty chair for the Sloan Fellows Program.
The university says Locke's current research focuses on improving labor and environmental conditions in global supply chains. He and his students have been working to show how profitability and sustainable business practices can be reconciled.
