CENTRAL FALLS, R.I. -- Fire officials are investigating the possibility that an electrical problem caused the fire that displaced two families with six people from a two-story building at 184 Cottage St. Tuesday morning.
Battalion Chief Kenneth Brousseau said the blaze, reported around 7:22 a.m. started in the building's attic and took about 90 minutes to extinguish.
One second floor tenant was the only one home at the time and managed to escape safely.
Brousseau said the blaze caused moderate smoke and fire damage to the attic and smoke and water damage to the rest of the building. The two families, including the owners on the first floor, said they would seek shelter with other family members living elsewhere.
