PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- A C-SPAN production crew is filming here this week as part of series spotlighting the city's history and literary life.
On Wednesday, it toured the State House grounds with Secretary of State A. Ralph Mollis and Stephen Hourahan, a senior adviser to Governor Chafee.
Mollis talked about the "Independent Man," the "lively experiment" phrase in the state's Royal Charter, and the cannon from the battle of Gettysburg in the entry of the building.
Hourahan conducted an overview of the formal State Room, the governor's office and legislative chambers.
The series, which also includes a segment on "The Prince of Providence," Journal staff writer Mike Stanton's book on the rise and fall of Vincent "Buddy" Cianci, will air Jan. 5 and 6 on the network's nonfiction book channel on C-SPAN 2 and its history channel, C-SPAN 3.
