CENTRAL FALLS, RI -- Cumberland Mayor Daniel McKee on Friday endorsed James A. Diossa, the front-runner in Tuesday's special mayoral election in Central Falls.
McKee, a Democrat, joins two other mayors, Angel Taveras of Providence and Donald Grebien, of Pawtucket, in supporting Diossa, who is facing Joseph P. Moran III in the race to succeed ex-Mayor Charles D. Moreau.
James Diossa "is committed to the community, he is passionate about bettering all schools in Central Falls and he has the vision to diligently manage the city's finances and restore government transparency and accountability,'' McKee said in a statement.
If elected, Diossa, who is Colombian, would be the first Latino mayor in Central Falls, the state's poorest city with a population that is more than 60 percent Hispanic. He won last month's five-way primary with 59 percent of the vote, while Moran was second with 18 percent.
