PROVIDENCE, R.I -- The Route 195 Redevelopment District Commission appointed the law firm Edwards Wildman Palmer LLP as its legal representative Monday night, following a brief executive session at the beginning of its regular meeting.
The commission severed its relationship with its previous law firm, Adler Pollock & Sheehan on Nov. 5. Adler Pollock & Sheehan is one of 14 defendants in a civil lawsuit filed Nov. 1 by the state's Economic Development Corporation alleging malpractice, fraud and negligence for its involvement in the 38 Studios loan guarantee.
The commission is charged with developing about 41 acres of land in Providence in a way that stimulates the Rhode Island economy. The land was freed up by the relocation of Route 195.
