There's a holiday WaterFire Friday; lighting is at 5 p.m.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Merry Christmas and happy holidays WaterFire fans.

WaterFire Providence credits an anonymous donor for funding the Friday night Holiday lighting, which will take place between Waterplace Park and the Steeple Street Bridge.

The event, starting at 5 p.m. Friday, will also feature an array of holiday-themed activities, including caroling, a tree-lighting and a visit from Santa Claus.

In the spirit of the season, organizers are asking people to bring donations, including new and unwrapped toys, food and clothing. These will be turned over to the Providence Rescue Mission, a non-profit Christian group that works to end poverty and homelessness in the city's West End.
