WARWICK, R.I. -- As local parents worry about the safety of their children in the wake of the Connecticut tragedy, the Warwick school district is beefing up security by requiring the main entrance at all elementary schools be locked.
Acting Superintendent Richard D'Agostino said that for more than 10 years, the district has required that all perimeter doors at elementary schools be locked except the main entrance where visitors could check in at the office.
Now, he said, those main entrances at elementary schools will be locked throughout the day and administrators are discussing if any changed are needed at the secondary school level.
"Over the years, however, we've seen our world change and I think Connecticut was just too close to home," D'Agostino said.
