PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Gen. Treasurer Gina Raimondo on Monday lauded her fellow state leaders -- including the the governor and attorney general -- for starting an "important conversation'' in the wake of the mass shooting of first-graders and their teachers at a Newtown, Conn. school.
"As the mother of two public elementary school students, the recent events in Newtown are still difficult for me to grasp and understand,'' she said.
"We must make reducing violence in our communities a priority. We owe it to one another to keep our neighborhoods and schools safe and thriving places for families to live peacefully... It is encouraging that state leaders... are starting these important conversations and reviews.
Raimondo said for RI victims, the Crime Victims Compensation Program can help.
