NORTH PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- A 25-year-old local woman was charged with tailgating and driving under the influence Saturday after an early morning crash on Mineral Spring Avenue.
Police said that after Amelia Poirier, of 43 George St., allegedly rear-ended a car driven by Jorge Acosta, of 11 George St., in front of McDonald's restaurant around 4:50 a.m, she stopped only briefly before driving away.
Acosta followed in pursuit and called in a description of Poirier's car to police, who apprehended her in the parking lot of a hair cutting salon on Smithfield Road. Poirier was charged with leaving the scene of an accident and a second DUI offense. She was also cited for following too closely and refusing to submit to a chemical test.
