CRANSTON, R.I. -- Police are trying to determine how an 18-month-old toddler ended up alone in a baby stroller at the Dollar Store on Garfield Avenue Wednesday afternoon.
Police Chief Col. Marco Palombo Jr. said that about a half hour after store employees reported finding the child at the end of an aisle, with no parent or guardian to be found, the mother came to the police station to report her child missing.
He said police are working with the Department of Children, Youth and Families on the incident. The child -- who was reported responsive but lethargic -- was taken for an evaluation at Hasbro Children's Hospital in Providence.
