PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- A North Kingstown man who sued Roger Williams University School of Law over its grading practices before becoming a member of the Rhode Island bar this year now finds that a transcript of his character and fitness hearing may be turned over to the school for use in defense of the suit.
James D. Laing, who graduated from the Bristol law school in 2010, is objecting to the release of the transcript, claiming the hearing was private.
The high court agreed that the law school's request for parts of his bar application should be denied, but voting 3-to-1, left it up to a Superior Court judge to decide whether the hearing transcript should be turned over.
