PAWTUCKET, R.I. -- A local man is accused of attempting to strangle his girlfriend at her residence on Saturday.
An officer called to 113 Margaret St. heard a woman screaming, "Get off of me!" according to a police report.
Inside, the officer found Christopher Souza, 31, who said that he was just holding his girlfriend down to "give her a kiss," the report stated.
But she told police that Souza smashed her phone and grabbed her by the throat, the report stated.
Souza was charged with felony domestic assault, domestic disorderly conduct, domestic vandalism, and a bench warrant on a drunken-driving charge, to which he'd pleaded no contest in September.
Souza was arraigned Monday at District Court, which set surety bail and issued a no-contact order.
