CENTRAL FALLS -- Michael V. Fair, chief executive officer of the Donald W. Wyatt Detention Facility, is leaving his job by "mutual decision," according to Steven T. Hartford, chairman of the jail's governing board.
Fair's $236,000-a-year contract expires Dec. 31.
Warden Brian K. Murphy will assume both roles, Hartford said Monday.
Hartford credited Fair with "doing a great job turning the Wyatt around."
During his tenure since 2009, "the Wyatt was fully re-accredited, just passed a federal audit with flying colors," and restored the average daily population to nearly that of when U.S. Customs and Immigration Enforcement paid to house immigration detainees there, Hartford said in an email.
Fair said Wyatt "is working on resuming" its relationship with ICE, which ended in 2008.
