JOHNSTON, R.I. (WPRI) -- The Johnston police are investigating a serious assault that took place early Saturday morning.
Major Michael Colucci said that the felony assault happened shortly before 2 a.m. at 101 Borden Avenue. The victim, whom police are not yet identifying, is in serious but stable condition at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence, suffering from head trauma.
Investigators were still at the scene at noon Saturday, taking at least one person for questioning and collecting evidence that included broken liquor bottles and red plastic cups.
Police say the assault happened at a party, and that the victim had been taken to the hospital before police arrived. The attacker had already fled and police have not named a suspect.
Neighbors said that the victim was hit by a baseball bat, and say police have been called to that house several times in the past for loud parties and other disturbances.
