PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- A homeless man sought in a downtown bank robbery was caught Wednesday leaving a mental health center, still wearing the same clothes from the robbery.
James Pettee, 43, was wanted in the Dec. 18 robbery of the Webster Bank at Kennedy Plaza, Cmdr. Thomas F. Oates III said.
But Pettee ended up empty-handed, when a dye pack exploded and ruined the stolen cash, Oates said.
While viewing bank surveillance photos, Officer Ivan Tavarez recognized Pettee -- whom he knew as "Jimmy Wolfe" from Kennedy Plaza, Oates said.
Wednesday morning, a day after the photos were publicized, someone else recognized Pettee at the Oasis Advocacy & Social Center and notified the police, Oates said.
Pettee was arrested. He will be arraigned Thursday on a second-degree robbery charge.
