CRANSTON, R.I. -- A Cranston man sought for months on charges of breaking a child's leg was caught after a car crash Friday in Providence, according to the police.
In September, Joseph Jones Jr., 28, was putting his girlfriend's 7-year-old son in "time out" when he kicked the boy and broke his femur, according to an investigation by Cranston Detective Jean Slaughter.
The boy's mother didn't report the injury, a police report said. But the boy's father, who has custody, called police when his son was returned -- and could only crawl on his swollen leg.
Cranston police drew a warrant, which Providence police discovered while investigating a car accident on Friday. Jones was seen fleeing the car.
Jones, of 6 Whipple Ave., is being held on surety bail.
