PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Looks like U.S. Reps. David N. Cicilline and James Langevin will get their wish: according to Politico, the House is set to reconvene Sunday to avert the so-called "fiscal cliff" of tax hikes and federal spending cuts due to take effect two days later.

Langevin, in a statement, said he's convinced a deal is "well within reach."

"[T]he American people have been clear in their support for a balanced compromise of new revenue from those who can afford it combined with targeted spending cuts that protect the middle class," he said. "If Republican leaders are willing to bring a bill with these parameters to a vote, I am confident that we will get bipartisan support."

Cicilline stated: "The stakes are high and it is critical that the House be a partner for, not an obstacle against, progress on such an important issue for so many hardworking families."

The Rhode Island Democrats expressed frustration earlier this week with GOP House Speaker John Boehner for declining to reconvene the chamber to deal with the "cliff."
