PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- While Vermont and Massachusetts have recovered more than two-thirds of the jobs they lost during the Great Recession, Rhode Island through November has recovered just 0.25 percent.
In fact, the Ocean State this summer saw its number of jobs dip below the worst levels seen at the end of the recession, a regional distinction it shares only with Maine.
Employment in Rhode Island peaked in December 2006 at 496,400 before tumbling for the next three years, bottoming out at 457,000 jobs in November 2009, according to figures from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Jobs this November were estimated at 457,100. Numbers this summer were as bad or even worse: 457,100 in June, 455,800 in July and 456,000 in August.
