Cranston and Warwick have received more than $1.26 million in federal grants to train fire fighters and paramedics and upgrade equipment.
Warwick will receive $741,741 to buy six new automated external defibrillators. The department will also use the money to help train fire fighters assigned to advanced life support ambulances, according to a joint news release from the offices of Sens. Jack Reed, Sheldon Whitehouse and U.S. Rep. James Langevin.
Cranston will receive $521,944 to install a computerized dispatch system and to replace and upgrade the department's firefighter breathing apparatus. The competitive federal Assitance to Firefighters Grants were made available throug the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
